Why Mermaid Beach chooses us
Why Mermaid Beach Locals Choose Gold Coast Demolitions
Mermaid Beach is changing one block at a time. An old shack comes down, a new home goes up, and the neighbours on both sides are usually brand new. We work carefully around them, and leave you a clean site for the builder.
Fibro Handled Properly
Fibro walls, eaves and sheds in old beach houses are surveyed first, then removed by licensed removalists before the machine starts.
New Homes Next Door Protected
Fences, glass and new render next door are protected, and neighbours are told when work starts and finishes.
Beachfront Lots Checked
Lots near the sand are checked for coastal requirements before we quote, and weathered steel and fixings are checked before anything comes down.
Side Streets Managed
Trucks on residential side streets are timed and parked with care, keeping driveways and the footpath clear.
Written Quote Before We Start
A free site inspection covers access, asbestos and everything on the block, so nothing on the block is missed.
Approvals and Disconnections Sorted
Building approval, notifications and disconnection of power, water, gas and NBN organised for you.

What's Different About Demolition in Mermaid Beach
Mermaid Beach, in short
Mermaid Beach is a narrow coastal strip about six kilometres south of Surfers Paradise. The ocean runs along its eastern side and the canals of Mermaid Waters along its western side, with Broadbeach to the north and Miami to the south. Hedges Avenue follows the beach at the northern end, the oldest part of the suburb, with the Gold Coast Oceanway path beside it. The Gold Coast Highway runs through the middle, and since August 2026 the light rail has run down its centre.
From fibro shacks to new homes
Mermaid Beach was once full of fibro beach shacks. Over the past few decades many have been knocked down for large new homes, first on Hedges Avenue and now on the side streets off it. East of the highway, most housing is still detached houses and duplexes, with low-rise unit blocks mixed in. So the typical job here is a house knockdown: an older shack or beach house cleared for a new build. Fibro means an asbestos survey comes first, every time.
The ground and the beach
The suburb sits on coastal sand between the surf and the canals. Sand is easy to dig, but it moves, so holes left by old footings, slabs and pools are backfilled and compacted to give the new slab a firm base. Lots close to the beach can carry coastal requirements. Decades of salt air also rust old steel, nails and roof sheeting, so the structure is checked before anyone climbs on it.
The council, and getting to you
Mermaid Beach is in the City of Gold Coast. Most demolitions need building approval, and beachfront lots may have extra requirements, so Gold Coast Demolitions checks your lot before quoting. Change is coming at the edges too, with towers planned at the northern end and on the highway near Pacific Fair. Trucks come in off the Gold Coast Highway, with loading planned around the tram, the side streets and weekend beach parking.

Demolition in Mermaid Beach, Answered
It depends on the size and construction of the house, whether asbestos is present, access from the street and what else is on the block, such as a pool or shed. After a free site inspection you get a written quote covering approvals, surveys, demolition, waste and site clearance.
Often, yes. Fibro made before 1990 may contain asbestos. It's surveyed before demolition and removed by licensed removalists before the house comes down.
Most house demolitions in the City of Gold Coast need building approval, and lots near the beach may have coastal requirements. We check what applies to your lot and organise it.
It can. Beachfront lots are checked for coastal requirements, the sand is compacted properly once the house is gone, and salt-affected steel is checked before work starts. Neighbouring homes are protected the whole way.
Deliveries and truck movements are planned around the tram and traffic on the Gold Coast Highway, loading stays inside the site where possible, and neighbours get notice before work starts.
Yes. The pool is broken up and removed, and the hole is backfilled and compacted so the builder can pour on it.
Most home demolitions take 3 to 7 days on site, after the asbestos survey, approvals and disconnections are done.
Yes. Gold Coast Demolitions covers Mermaid Waters, Miami, Broadbeach and the rest of the Gold Coast.
