What you get

What's Included in Your Earthmoving

Earthmoving is about the whole block: moving soil from where it isn't wanted to where it is, taking out the hard surfaces and leaving firm, even ground to build on. Gold Coast Demolitions often does it straight after a knockdown, but plenty of jobs start on a block that's already clear. One written quote covers the whole job. It includes:

  • Free site inspection and written quote
  • Clearing leftover rubble, roots and debris after demolition
  • Breaking out and removing old driveways, slabs and paths
  • Site levelling to the levels your builder or designer sets
  • Cut and fill to balance the ground across the block
  • Backfilling old footings, pools and holes in layers
  • Compaction with the right roller or plate for the soil
  • Surplus soil and concrete trucked away, recycled where possible

Gold Coast Demolitions runs earthmoving and demolition as one job when your block needs both.

How we do it

How Earthmoving Works, Step by Step

Every earthmoving job follows the same order. Getting the levels right on paper first is what makes the ground come out right on site.

  1. Laser level staff held upright on a sandy block to check ground levelsFree, on site

Step 1: Inspect and Check Levels

We walk the block, check the existing levels against your plans, look at access and send a written quote.

  2. Excavator bucket teeth digging into broken concrete and render rubbleDay 1

    Step 2: Clear the Site

Leftover rubble, roots, old pipes and debris come out, so the soil underneath is clean to work with.

  3. Broken concrete being dropped into a tipper truck trayDay 1 onwards

    Step 3: Remove Hard Surfaces

Driveways, slabs and paths are broken up, loaded and trucked out, with concrete sent for recycling.

  4. Skid steer levelling a cleared sandy blockMain works

    Step 4: Cut

High ground is cut, low ground is filled and the block is shaped to the finished levels, with falls for drainage.

  5. Sandy block being levelled and compacted after demolitionMain works

    Step 5: Backfill and Compact

Holes and fill areas are built up in layers and compacted as we go, so the ground doesn't settle later.

  6. Freshly raked, level soil after the house has been removedFinal day

Step 6: Final Trim and Hand Over

The surface is trimmed to level, surplus soil is taken away and the block is left tidy for your builder.

Every block is different

What Kind of Earthmoving Does Your Block Need?

Most jobs are one of these, or a mix of a few.
These are the earthmoving jobs we see most across the Gold Coast.

  1. After a Knockdown

Once the house is gone, the footprint is cleared, old footing holes are filled and compacted, and the whole block is levelled for the new build.

    Most common
  2. Driveways and Slabs

Old driveways, carports, patios, paths and shed slabs broken out and removed, on their own or as part of a bigger job.

    Concrete out
  3. Sloping Blocks

Ground cut from the high side and placed on the low side to form a level pad, keeping how much soil comes in or goes out to a minimum.

    Cut and fill
  4. Sandy Coastal Blocks

Loose beach sand shifts easily, so fill and backfill are placed in layers and compacted properly before anything is built on it.

    Compaction
  5. Backyards and Landscaping

Yards levelled for turf, paving or a granny flat, with compact machinery for side access and tight spaces.

    Smaller machines
  6. Commercial and Multi-Lot Sites

Bigger sites stripped, levelled and prepared after a commercial demolition, with trucks scheduled to keep the site moving.

Earthmoving vs Excavation

The two often happen on the same block, but they're different jobs. Earthmoving shapes the whole site; excavation digs specific holes to the plans.

Pricing

Earthmoving Cost
on the Gold Coast

Every block is different, so an accurate price comes from a site inspection, not a calculator. These are the things that move the cost of earthmoving.

After a free inspection you get a written quote that covers machinery, labour, compaction and removal of surplus material.

What affects your price

  • Size of the area

A bigger block or a larger area to level means more machine time.

  • How much soil moves

Steeper blocks need more cut and fill, and any soil brought in or taken away adds truckloads.

  • Concrete to remove

Thick driveways, reinforced slabs and old paths take longer to break out and add to disposal.

  • Site access

Narrow side access or tight streets may mean smaller machines and more trips.

  • Ground conditions

Soft, wet or sandy ground can need more compaction or imported fill to firm it up.

  • What comes before and after

Earthmoving booked with the demolition or excavation is planned as one job, which saves double handling.

Earthmoving Questions, Answered

Earthmoving shapes the whole block: levelling, cut and fill, removing concrete and compacting the ground. Excavation digs specific holes to the plans, like footings, pools and service trenches. Many jobs need both, and Gold Coast Demolitions can plan them together.

It depends on the size of the area, how much soil has to move, any concrete to remove, access and the ground conditions. After a free site inspection you get a written quote.

Yes. After a house demolition, old footing holes are filled and compacted, the footprint is cleared and the block is levelled for your builder. Doing both together saves time between trades.

It's taking soil from the high parts of a block and placing it on the low parts to make a level area. Done well, it keeps the amount of soil trucked in or out to a minimum.

Yes. Driveways, carports, patios, paths and shed slabs are broken up, loaded and trucked out, and clean concrete goes to recycling wherever possible.

Loose fill settles over time, which can crack slabs, paths and driveways built on top. Placing fill in layers and compacting each one gives the ground a firm base. We can arrange compaction testing where your engineer asks for it.

Sometimes. Filling or excavating that changes the ground level can need approval from the City of Gold Coast. Gold Coast Demolitions checks what applies to your block before work starts.

Often, yes. Compact machinery fits through narrow side access, and we'll tell you at the inspection what will fit and how the soil will get out.

Clean soil is reused on the block wherever it's needed. Anything left over is trucked away, and concrete is sent for recycling where possible.
