Excavation Gold Coast

Footings, pools, service trenches and site cuts, dug to your plans with the right-sized machinery. Underground services located first, depths checked as we go, and the spoil taken away.

What you get

What's Included in Your Excavation

Excavation is precise work: a hole of a set size, in a set place, at a set depth, so the concrete, pool or pipes that go in next fit first time. Gold Coast Demolitions digs to your engineer's or builder's plans, with a machine sized for the job and the access. One written quote covers the whole job. It includes:

  • Free site inspection and written quote
  • Underground service plans requested before any digging
  • Set-out checked against the plans with your builder
  • Machinery matched to the job, from mini excavators up
  • Footings, pools, trenches and site cuts dug to depth
  • Trench safety controls where the depth calls for them
  • Spoil loaded and trucked away, or stockpiled if you want it
  • A clean, square excavation, ready for the next trade

Gold Coast Demolitions plans excavation around your builder, plumber and pool company.

How we do it

How Excavation Works, Step by Step

Every dig follows the same order. Most mistakes in excavation happen before the bucket goes in, so that's where the most care goes.

  1. Engineering plans spread on a tailgate beside a tape measure and marking paintFree, on site

Step 1: Inspect and Read the Plans

We look at the site, the access and your engineer's or builder's plans, then send a written quote.

  2. Painted service markings on the ground showing where underground pipes runBefore work starts

    Step 2: Locate Underground Services

Service plans are requested before digging, and pipes and cables are marked out on the ground.

  3. Cleared block with set-out pegs, ready for a new home to be builtBefore work starts

    Step 3: Check the Set-Out

Pegs and string lines are checked against the plans, so every footing and trench is in the right place.

  4. Mini excavator with a narrow trenching bucket parked beside a side gateDay 1

    Step 4: Match the Machine

The machine and bucket are chosen for the job, the access and what's close by, from a mini excavator to a larger machine.

  5. Mini excavator digging a footing trench for a new buildMain works

    Step 5: Dig to Depth

We dig in stages, checking depth, width and levels as we go, with trench safety controls where the depth calls for them.

  6. Excavator bucket tipping sandy spoil into the tray of a tipper truckFinal day

Step 6: Spoil Out and Hand Over

Spoil is loaded and trucked away, the edges are left clean and the excavation is ready for inspection or the next trade.

What we dig

What Are You Digging For?

Each type of dig has its own tolerances, machinery and next step.
These are the excavation jobs we see most across the Gold Coast.

  1. Footings

Strip and pad footings dug to the engineer's depth and width, clean and square so the concrete goes straight in.

    For the slab
  2. Swimming Pools

Pool holes dug and shaped to the pool company's plans, with the spoil trucked out as it comes out of the ground.

    To the pool plans
  3. Service Trenches

Trenches for stormwater, sewer, water, power and communications, dug straight and to the right depth and fall.

    Pipes and conduits
  4. Site Cuts

Cuts into a slope for a slab, garage or undercroft, dug to the builder's levels, with the batters left stable.

    Sloping blocks
  5. Tanks and Pits

Holes for rainwater tanks, stormwater pits and soakage, dug neatly around what's already there.

    Detailed digging
  6. Tight and Detailed Digs

Digging beside existing homes, fences and pipes, with compact machinery and hand digging where needed.

    Mini excavators

How the digs compare

Footings vs Pools vs Service Trenches

All three are excavation, but each is dug differently. If your job is about levelling or reshaping the whole block, that's earthmoving.

Excavation Cost
on the Gold Coast

Every dig is different, so an accurate price comes from a site inspection, not a calculator. These are the things that move the cost of excavation.

After a free inspection you get a written quote that covers the machinery, the dig and removal of the spoil.

What affects your price

  • How much comes out

A pool or a deep site cut produces far more spoil than a set of footings, and more truckloads.

  • Depth

Deeper digs take longer and can need shoring, benching or battering to keep the sides stable.

  • Ground conditions

Rock, clay, wet sand or a high water table all change how the dig is done.

  • Site access

Narrow side access means smaller machines, smaller loads and more trips to the truck.

  • What's nearby

Digging close to homes, fences or existing pipes is slower and more careful.

  • Where the spoil goes

Spoil trucked away costs more than spoil kept on site for later use.

Excavation Questions, Answered

Excavation digs specific holes to the plans: footings, pools, trenches and site cuts. Earthmoving shapes the whole block, with levelling, cut and fill and compaction. Gold Coast Demolitions does both, and often plans them as one job.

It depends on how much comes out, how deep you're going, the ground, access, what's nearby and where the spoil goes. After a free site inspection you get a written quote.

Yes. Service plans are requested through Before You Dig Australia before any job starts, and pipes and cables are marked out on the ground so the dig works around them.

Often, yes. Mini excavators fit through narrow side access and work close to existing homes and fences. We'll confirm what will fit at the site inspection.

Yes. We dig to the pool company's plans and truck the spoil out as it comes out, so the yard isn't buried under a stockpile.

It's loaded straight into trucks and taken away. If you'd like some kept for landscaping or backfill, tell us and we'll stockpile it where you want it.

Under Queensland's excavation rules, trench work deeper than 1.5 metres is high-risk work that needs a safe work method statement, and the sides are controlled with shoring, benching or battering. Gold Coast Demolitions plans those controls into the job before digging starts.

Yes. Site cuts are dug to your builder's levels for the slab, garage or undercroft, with the batters left stable and the spoil trucked away.

Some low-lying Gold Coast land near canals and waterways can contain acid sulfate soils, which need testing and management when dug up. The City of Gold Coast maps these areas, and we'll flag it if your dig is likely to be affected.
